James Rhys Edwards's Bio:
James Rhys Edwards received his doctorate in Ethnomusicology from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2015, with a dissertation on the aesthetics and politics of performing arts in prewar Okinawa, Japan (http://escholarship.org/uc/item/9r74h4t8). He has carried out research in Japan, Indonesia, and Singapore, leading to publications in Asian Theatre Journal, Journal of the Japan Studies Association, Green Letters: Studies in Ecocriticism, Ethnomusicology Review, International Journal of Asia-Pacific Studies, and the edited volume Current Directions in Ecomusicology. His research interests include philosophical materialism and critical theory, political economy and ecology, historical ethnomusicology, and experimental music and noise. He also enjoys running, skiing, cooking, and travel.
